March through June are big birthday months for our family. We have over ten birthdays these months so making birthday cakes for everyone is not only hard on my budget, but also hard on my waistline too. You see, if there is cake sitting around I just HAVE to eat it; because we don’t want food to go to waste, right?!

Now, by no means are milkshakes a lot healthier than cake, but they come in much smaller portions. And my boys love milkshakes just as much, if not more than cake. We love going to Sonic for their 1/2 price shakes and their slushes. We’ve made Homemade Slushes but have yet to make their shakes; that was until my husband told me he didn’t want a cake for his birthday. He didn’t have a preference on flavor just wanted a good, thick shake.  Just like this Oreo Milkshake – perfectly thick!

Cake Batter Ice Cream from Cold Stone is both my and my husband’s favorite ice cream flavor so I knew this would be a good surprise shake for him. But finding cake batter flavored ice cream at the store was harder than I thought. I had to go to three stores and finally found a Kroger brand Cake Batter; and it was so good! Another bonus to shakes is that they take a fraction of the time to make; throw everything in a blender and let it blend for 15 seconds and you’re done. Perfect for those days when you’ve been running around all day and don’t have time to bake a cake.

This birthday cake shake was such a big hit that the boys asked for another one the next day. We switched it up a bit and made these Peanut Butter Shakes and they were gone within minutes. Now that we have a few favorites under our belt I want to know, what’s your favorite flavor of shake? How about this Shamrock Shake Recipe?
