Ingredient Notes for Candied Bacon Crackers

  • Bacon: Use a package of thin sliced bacon for this recipe. You won’t want to use thick cut bacon, as thick slices of bacon won’t cook as well in the oven on the crackers. You want to drain all the bacon fat.
  • Townhouse crackers: You can also use Ritz crackers, Buttery Club crackers, or any type of box of crackers that are a buttery cracker.
  • Cayenne pepper: For less spicy crackers, a half teaspoon of black pepper will work.

See the recipe card below for a complete list of the ingredients with measurements.

Variations and Substitutions for Bacon Glazed Crackers

  • Pepper Jam: For more of a spicy kick, brush these crackers with pepper jam.
  • Maple Syrup: Add some maple syrup for sweeter crackers.

Arranging the bacon and crackers.

Step 1: Prep

First, preheat the oven, then cut each piece of bacon into thirds or fourths. Then, place a wire rack over a baking sheet. I like to place parchment paper under the rack to make clean up easier.

Step 2: Arrange Crackers are Topped with Bacon

Arrange the crackers evenly in a single layer on top of the rack, then top each cracker with a slice of bacon. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cayenne – this adds sweetness with a little heat.

Step 3: Bake Crackers

Next, sprinkle brown sugar and cayenne on top of the bacon pieces. Bake at 400 degrees until bacon is crisp and the sugar starts to caramelize. Make sure to watch the oven, or the crackers will burn.

Before and after baking the crackers and topping with the brown sugar.

Bacon Glazed Crackers FAQs

To make these bacon crackers somewhat healthier, use turkey bacon or gluten-free crackers.

You can use turkey bacon or pork bacon, but you can also use different flavors, such as smoked or maple bacon for this easy to make recipe with bacon and brown sugar.

For some extra spice, try using some red pepper flakes. You can also top them with a thin slice of jalapeño and sour cream.

Made these in advance, might not have been a good idea- crackers got soft. How do you store these? I’m going to try to freshen them up by placing on pan in oven at 400 for a few minutes…fingers crossed.

    • They are definitely better when made fresh. I like the idea of freshening them in the oven. That should be a good fix!

  3. I made two pans of this. My bacon curled up and the crackers got very dark. I lowered the temp to 350 and the crackers didn’t over-brown, but the bacon didn’t really crisp… but it was still tasty;.
