Ingredient Notes for Spiced Apple Cake

  • Shortening: Good old fashion shortening, traditional or butter flavored.
  • Sugar: White sugar.
  • Eggs: Two large eggs are need for the apple cake.
  • Flour: All purpose flour/plain flour.
  • Baking Soda: This will help the cake rise.
  • Cinnamon: Ground cinnamon to add to the mixture.
  • Coffee: Warm prepared coffee.
  • Apples: Diced or slice of apple. You will need around two cups.
  • Walnuts: Chopped or crushed walnuts.
  • Topping:
  • Brown sugar
  • Cinnamon

How to Make Apple Tea Cake

These are the basic steps for making apple & cinnamon cake. Please refer to the recipe card below for more detailed instructions.

Preparing the ingredients for the cake batter.

STEP 1: PREP

First, preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease and prepare a bundt pan.

STEP 2: MIX

Then in the bowl of a stand mixer, cream shortening, sugar and eggs together and then sift together flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Add dry ingredients to creamed shortening. Mix in coffee and fold in apples and walnuts. Pour batter into a greased and floured tube or bundt pan.

STEP 3: BAKE

.Next, stir together topping ingredients and sprinkle evenly over top of cake batter.  Bake for 45-55 minutes or until a cake tester, inserted to the center, comes out clean.  Cool for 10 minutes and remove cake from pan by inverting it onto a serving plate.

Ingredients

Cake

  • ¾ cup shortening
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ½ cups flour
