This Valentine’s Day, I’m making these adorable Love Bug Sandwiches.  They are one of my favorite healthy snack ideas for kids.

Love Bug Sandwiches-Healthy Snack Ideas Peanut Butter and Nutella Recipes from It's a Keeper

I love when Valentine’s Day falls on a weekday.  It means I can surprise my little guy with a fun, Valentine themed lunch.  This year, I’m going to make him these adorable Love Bug Sandwiches.

I can just imagine him opening his lunch box and finding these cute heart-shaped sandwiches.  I’m also going to pack him some strawberries cut into heart shapes, Fruit Roll Ups cut into heart shapes and some strawberry milk.

To top it all off, I’ll tuck a little Valentine inside just to show him that his mama is thinking about him.

I just love these sandwiches.  They are super easy to make and super cute to serve.  Plus, they’re very versatile.  You can switch up the fillings to fit your love bug’s tastes!

Cooking with Kids: Get Your Kids to Help!

This is a great recipe to enlist the help of your little ones.  Set them up with a butter knife and some bread and let them spread the filling on each slice.  I also have my little guy slice the bananas.

I handle the grilling part but once they come off the grill, I let him use the cookie cutter to cut them into shapes.  That’s his favorite part!

Want to surprise your love bug with a healthy snack?  Make these adorable Love Bug Sandwiches!

Healthy Snack Ideas:  Love Bug Sandwiches

2 slices of whole grain bread
Butter
1 Tbsp peanut butter
1 Tbsp Nutella chocolate hazlenut spread
Banana slices (optional)

Spread the peanut butter on one slice of bread.  Spread Nutella on one side of the other slice of bread.  Place a layer of banana slices on top of the Nutella.  Put both slices of bread together.  Spread the outside of the sandwich with butter.  Grill until both sides are toasted.  Remove sandwich from grill.  Using a cookie cutter, cut sandwiches into heart shapes.
