These easy Christmas Tree Cupcakes are a festive holiday treat!

Christmas Tree Cupcakes

Let me start by saying that I take zero credit for this idea.  But here’s how these cupcakes came about…

Our church’s Sunday School always celebrates Jesus’ birthday the Sunday before Christmas.  It’s a fun way to send the kids off for the holiday break while acknowledging the reason for the season.

This year, our Sunday School superintendent made these adorable cupcakes.  Everyone loved them and they were definitely the hit of the party — along with the Minute to Win It candy cane game that we played.

The key to the cuteness of these cupcakes is the chocolate trees that sit atop them.  And, they are super easy to make!

You start by laying a pretzel stick on a parchment-lined baking sheet.  Then melt a package of green candy melts according to the package directions.

Transfer the melted candy melts to a zip-top bag and snips off the tip of the bag.

Leave about 1/3 of the pretzel stick for the trunk of the tree.  Beginning 1/3 of the way from the bottom (the widest part of the tree) start zig-zagging the chocolate across the pretzel stick, getting a little smaller with each line.  You’ll want to make sure that your lines touch each other, too.

Frosting tress on tin foil.

Before the chocolate dries, add some little ball sprinkles to look like ornaments on the trees.

Christmas Tree's made of frosting on tin foil.

Allow chocolate trees to harden (preferably in the fridge).  Finally, place the Christmas trees in the top of your cupcakes, either made from scratch – I love this Chocolate cake recipe – or store-bought (I’ll never tell – or judge!).

These are so fun and cute and perfect for holiday parties!

Thanks, Tom and Sharon, for sharing these cute cupcakes – and for allowing me to use your photos!
