Here in the biggest little city, it has been cold with no snow, which is no fun.  By this time I am ready for spring, apparently the kids are as well because they begin asking, “when will it be Spring Mom?”  You should see the looks on their faces when I reply “we’ll have to see what Phil says.”  I reply with a little history lesson on Groundhog’s Day, Punxsutawney Phil and his shadow.   That is about as far as I go on the Groundhog Day lessons, but I love incorporating the theme into printable activities.

Groundhog Printable Activities

The kids love having their own note books and printable activities.  Sometimes it may be scratch paper that is cut, folded, and stapled.  Other times Mom gets creative like I did with the printables down below.  The first two pages are Alphabetical order using pre-primer and primer dolce words.  Dolce words are easily recognized words that are in reading materials often.  These are the sight words most schools are using now and prefer our children read without the help of sounding out.  The third printable is a word search with Ground Hog and Spring time words.

Click on the following images to download the .pdf printable.

Groundhog Day Printable Activities Word Search

My husband, children and I love to compete at word search.  We buy identical word search books, start searching at the same and the first person to find all the words wins.

Enjoy these free printables.  If you would like to see different printables, please share and Ill get some made for you.

This Groundhog Day, do you think Phil will see his shadow?
