Do you need help with family room organizing? Here are easy ways to organize your children’s video games.
Hi everyone! This is Jennifer from Making Our Life Matter, and I am so happy to be here today on Christina’s blog. I am excited to be bringing you some great posts involving family and home.
This month, I am talking about easy ways to organize your children’s video games. I have 2 teen boys, so this is a topic that I struggle with all the time. If your kids are anything like mine, they have at 3 systems they need to keep track of. It’s a lot of things to keep up with, and I am here to help you with that.
As most of you know, video game systems and video games are an expensive past time. And many of you can probably relate to the fact that boys don’t always take the best care of their equipment. There are many times I come home from work and find all the video game equipment looking like this:
Not really a great idea when you are putting out a ton of money for them to have these games. My husband and I love to play video games as well, so we like to keep things neat and organized. In fact, I think video games are a great way to strengthen your marriage or bond with your kids.
So what are easy ways to organize your children’s video games? Read on.
- Out with the old before in with the new. If you kids have not played a game in over 9 months, time to get rid of it. Chances are it no longer works correctly, and a newer version is coming out soon.
- Keep the original cases the game came in. This is the absolute best way to protect the game and promote easy storage. Also, if your child decides to trade in their game at some point, they will get more for it if it is in the original case.
- Designate a “home” for games and accessories. We keep the game system in the main living room area. We have a TV stand that has 2 doors, so we use one side for the games and accessories. Works great, especially when it is time for clean up.
Now, to make things even easier I made 2 game baskets to store things in. I took two simple black plastic storage containers like this:
I use one for the game cases, and the other for the accessories.
They are very inexpensive, and make a huge difference when it comes to organizing the video games and equipment. The best part is that this system makes clean up fast and easy! All the kids(or you) have to do is slide the baskets back in their storage area, and you are done!
So I hope that you found these easy tips for organizing your children’s video games helpful. I enjoyed sharing them with you because they have made my life so much easier. It is also a great way to teach kids to be responsible for their gaming systems.
Not to mention, it is a lot less yelling for Mom and Dad. And will probably prevent the dog from eating some of them. Just ask me how I know this.
