Mulled Crock Pot Apple Cider

Ingredients

gallon
apple cider
▢

orange

cut into slices

whole cloves
▢
3-4
cinnamon sticks

star anise pods
▢

grated fresh nutmeg
Instructions
Slice orange into 1/4-inch-thick rounds. Stud each orange slice with 5-6 cloves each.
Place all ingredients in a large slow cooker.
Set to low and allow to simmer. Serve warm in mugs.
Notes
Add Spirits:
Rum, whiskey, brandy or bourbon can add a great addition to this punch.
Strain:
Strain out with a fine-mesh strainer, or cheesecloth to strain out the spices.
Sweetener:
A sweetener of choice will add great flavor, try things such as honey, maple syrup to add sweetness to the liquid.
Alternate ingredient:
Top with butter to add a little cream to the drink.

Need it quick? You can cook in the instant pot.
Dietary consideration tip:
Low sugar fruits such as whole cranberries are great in this recipe, also use a sugar substitute to add as sweetener.
