Little Smokies Pigs in a Blanket
5 from 8 votes
This Little Smokies Pigs in a Blanket recipe is a classic appetizer kicked up a notch. This quick and easy appetizer uses everything but the bagel seasoning to amp up the savory flavor.
Preheat the oven to 375℉ and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate one rectangle made up of two triangle crescent rolls. Pinch the seam of the triangles together, then roll out the dough until it’s a flat rectangle.
Cut the rectangle into one-inch strips, then wrap each strip around a sausage. Place the wrapped sausages on an ungreased baking sheet.
Brush the sausages with melted butter and sprinkle everything but the bagel seasoning on top.
Bake in the preheated oven for 13 to 15 minutes, until the crescent rolls are golden brown. Serve immediately
Christina's Notes
Double the Recipe: This blanket recipe makes about 28 pieces. If you want to double it grab another package of crescent rolls and sausages, and work in batches.
Dough Handling: Don't overwork the dough. Gently unroll it and cut it into strips or squares.
Sausage Prep: Pat the Little Smokies dry with paper towels before wrapping them. This helps the dough adhere better and prevents sogginess.
Wrapping Technique: Wrap the dough tightly around the sausages, ensuring a good seal. This prevents the filling from leaking out during baking. Overlap the dough slightly.
Egg Wash: Brushing the dough with an egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water) before baking gives the blankets a beautiful golden-brown color.
Seasoning: Sprinkle the dough with sesame seeds, poppy seeds for extra flavor and visual appeal.
Bacon: If you love lil smokies, try them wrapped in bacon!
Smaller Dough Strips: Cut each triangle into 3 smaller triangles, place the sausage on the wide end and roll all the way up.
