Ham and Cheese Appetizer Skewers
4.66 from 20 votes
These appetizer skewers are made with deli ham and cheese cubes. They're great for parties or picnics, and make a great gluten-free alternative to sandwiches.
Place one cherry tomato on a wooden skewer and slide it near one end.
Add 3 pieces of ham and 3 pieces of cheese, alternating as you go.
Top off the skewer with a cherry tomato.

Caprese Skewers Recipe: Swap out the cheese for different varieties. Try gruyere, feta cheese, gouda, or fresh mozzarella balls.
Mix and Match: Serve alongside Italian appetizers, like bruschetta and other antipasto items.
Ham: Prosciutto, salami, or roast beef can be used in place of ham.
Add vegetables: You can make them vegetarian with vegetables instead of meat. Cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, bell pepper chunks, olives, or marinated artichoke hearts add color and flavor.
Fruit: Feel free to use cubes of melon, grapes, or pineapple.
Cheese Tortellini: These skewers are super easy to make with fresh tortellini pasta. Just make sure to make them ahead of time and prepare the tortellini according to package directions.
Pickles: Small gherkins or cornichons add a tangy bite to this antipasto dish.
Olives: Stuffed olives, green olives, or Kalamata olives add flavor and visual appeal for the ultimate skewer.
Bread: Add small cubes of bread (like baguette or sourdough) for a heartier appetizer. You can lightly toast the bread for added texture.
Marinade: Marinate the cheese or ham in a mixture of olive oil, herbs, and spices for extra flavor in these easy appetizers.
Cheese Board: Bamboo skewers are fine, but metal skewers are reusable and often look more elegant. Arrange the skewers on a charcuterie board or serving platter.
Thread ingredients tightly: This prevents them from sliding around and keeps the skewers looking neat.
Consider a dipping sauce: Honey mustard, a drizzle of balsamic glaze, or even a simple vinaigrette can elevate these skewers.
Garnish: A sprinkle of fresh herbs (like parsley or fresh basil leaves) or a drizzle of honey, balsamic vinegar, or Italian dressing adds a touch of sophistication.
