Upside Down Pizza Casserole

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 15 ounces jar pizza sauce
  • 1 10 ounce package refrigerated biscuits
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes - optional
  • Parmesan cheese for garnish - optional


  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet on medium high heat. Brown beef and drain off fat.
  • In the skillet add jarred sauce, seasonings and a handful of Mozzarella cheese to beef. Stir until evenly mixed and heated through (about five minutes)
  • Transfer mixture into an ungreased 2 quart baking dish. Sprinkle remaining Mozzarella cheese on top.
  • Cut each biscuit in half and flatten by hand making them half inch thick. Line the biscuits on top of cheese.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown.
