  • Cherry Pie Filling: You will need a can of cherry pie filling. Any cherry pie or fruit pie filling will work. You can also make a homemade cherry pie filling.
  • Vanilla Extract: You will need vanilla extract, you can also use vanilla bean paste.
  • Greek Yogurt: For these cherry cheesecake dessert wontons you can use either greek yogurt or sour cream.

How to Make Cherry Cheesecake Wontons

These are the basic steps for making Cherry Cheesecake Dessert Wontons. Please refer to the recipe card below for more detailed instructions.

STEP 1: MAKE THE FILLING

In a large mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and greek yogurt, mix with a rubber spatula until smooth.

STEP 2: FILL DESSERT WONTON WRAPPERS

Lay a 3-4 wontons sheets on a cutting board at a time and cover the remaining ones with a damp paper towel. First scoop 1 tsp of cream cheese wonton filling then 1 tsp of cherry pie filling. Repeat until you have used up all of the creamy cheesecake filling, make sure to scrape the sides of the bowl to ensure no cheesecake batter filling is wasted.

STEP 3: SEALING WONTONS

To seal each dessert wonton, folding in half into a triangle shape, press firmly on the other edges to create a seal while also removing any air bubbles. A little melted butter or lemon juice around the edges will help the seal hold. Repeat this step for every wonton. Place your dutch oven filled with cooking oil on the stove and allow to heat to 300 degrees f.

STEP 4: FRY WONTON DESSERT

Once oil has heated to 300 degrees, fry about 3-4 wontons at a time for about 3 min, you will want to flip halfway through to ensure both sides are golden and crispy. Use a skimmer to help drain oil and transfer to a paper towel lined plate or wire rack. Repeat in batches until all wontons have been fried. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!

Ingredients
  

  • 32 Wonton Wrappers
  • ½ cup Cream Cheese, softened
  • 1 ½ cups Powdered Icing Sugar, or to taste
  • 2 Tablespoons Greek Yogurt or Sour Cream
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Cherry Pie Filling
  • Water, as needed
  • 4 cups Oil, for frying

Instructions
 

  • In a large bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered icing sugar, vanilla extract and greek yogurt until smooth and well-combined.
  • Lay a few wontons out on a cutting board and place a wet paper towel over the remaining wonton wrappers to keep them from drying out.
  • Scoop 1 teaspoon of the cheesecake filling and 1 teaspoon of the cherry pie filling onto the center of each wonton wrapper.
  • Brush the edges of each wonton wrapper with a bit of water and then folder over into a triangle shape, pressing to seal and remove all air from the wonton.
  • Repeat with all wontons wrappers.
  • Place the cooking oil in a heavy pan or dutch oven and heat to 300F.
  • Fry the wontons 3-4 at a time until lightly golden, flipping over halfway through cooking, about 3 minutes each batch.
  • Repeat until all wontons are fried.
