  • Mini Marshmallows: If you can’t find mini marshmallows, don’t sweat it! You can get regular sized marshmallows and cut them into smaller pieces to imitate mini marshmallows.

Jello Salad Variations and Substitutions

  • Changing the flavors – If orange isn’t your preferred fruit, you could always change the flavor of jello to one of your choosing. If you do change the flavor make sure to try and match the jello flavor to the fruits you put in.  Feel free to swap orange jell-o out, too. Strawberry jello would make a great alternative.  Raspberry jello and peach jello would be a great way to change up the jello flavor, too. 
  • Less sugar variations – Fruit fluff salad is an extremely sweet and sugary dessert, but there is ways to turn down the sugar and sweet factor. You can get alternative ingredients such as sugar free jello, sugar free cool whip, and/or no sugar added canned mandarins.

STEP 1: COMBINE AND MIX FIRST SET OF INGREDIENTS

In a large bowl combine together the pineapple and box of jello (Photo #1-3).  You don’t need water for the jello.  The, fold in the cool whip to the jello mixture (Photo #4).

STEP 2: MIX IN REST OF INGREDIENTS AND CHILL

Gently mix the rest of the ingredients into the large bowl. Cover the bowl and chill in the refrigerator.  For added indulgence, top with whipped cream before serving (Photos #1-3).

HOW TO MAKE THIS SALAD AHEAD OF TIME

Although this mandarin orange salad takes an hour to chill, you can also make it hours or even a day in advance and keep it stored in the fridge until you need it. It’s a great recipe for parties and holidays.

HOW TO STORE THIS RECIPE

Store leftover orange fluff dessert in the fridge.  Store the salad in an airtight container.  Use your leftover orange fluff within 3-5 days.

HOW TO FREEZE THIS RECIPE

Freezing this orange fluff recipe isn’t recommended because when unfrozen jello will become watery and separate.

SHOULD I USE SWEETENED OR UNSWEETENED COCONUT?

You can use which ever one you prefer! Sweeten coconut will add to the sweetness of the dessert and unsweetened coconut can lower the sugar intake.

CAN THIS RECIPE BE DOUBLED OR HALVED?

Yes! You can easily divide the ingredients in half to get a smaller portion or if you need a bigger portion easily double the recipe.

HOW CAN I TELL IF MY JELLO FLUFF SALAD IS STILL GOOD?

  • 3.4 ounce orange jello, 1 box

  • 14 ounces mandarin oranges, drained
