Recipe FAQs

WHAT IS THE SECRET TO MOIST SCONES?

Using buttermilk or heavy cream instead of regular milk can help to create a super moist scone. Freezing the dough before baking will also help with moisture because it will be certain the butter is cold enough to create the air pockets it needs.

WHY DO YOU PUT A TEA TOWEL OVER SCONES?

Placing a tea towel over your baked scones will help trap in the steam and keep them nice and soft.

HOW DO I FORM MY SCONE DOUGH?

To form your scone dough, roll it into a ball and then flatten it out with your hands to make a disc shape.

SHOULD MY DOUGH BE WET AND STICKY?

Scone dough should be a little sticky but not too wet. If your dough is wet and too sticky you can fix this by adding 1/4-1/2 cup more of flour.
