What is the difference between a biscuit and a dumpling?

Dumplings are pieces of dough that are cooked by boiling, steaming, or frying. They are made from flour, water, and sometimes eggs or baking powder. Unlike biscuits, dumplings do not use baking soda or baking powder as a main leavening agent. Biscuits also are flakier and have a uniform shape.
