This Slow Cooker Spicy Beef Stew will quickly become one of your favorite easy crock pot recipes. It’s one of the best slow cooker recipes of all time.
I LOVE my slow cooker. It is an absolute life saver for us when things are busy. I can dump everything in it first thing in the morning and by dinner time, I have a perfectly scrumptious meal ready for the family.
I must confess, I actually have 2 slow cookers plus an extra insert. This means that when I’m feeling motivated, I can make 2 or 3 different meals and save myself some major stress later in the week.
This recipe actually came about after I picked up a peppered roast on sale at our local butcher’s. It wasn’t gig enough to feed our large family as a roast, so I decided to dice it up and make a stew.
The thing about experimenting is, it can be quite an adventure. In this case we found the stew to be so spicy that only my husband (the man with the cast iron stomach) could eat it. So the next time I made it, I used 1 peppered steak and 1 regular steak and it toned the spice down nicely.
These days I just use diced beef or plain steak and add my own spice, unless I manage to pick up some peppered steak on sale. The advantage of this is I can change up the spices to suit my mood or any guests we may have joining us for dinner.
I like to keep the vegetables in this simple but feel free to add any vegetables you like, I’ve been known to throw in peas, beans and corn and I’m sure some turnip and parsnip would work well too.
What I love about this meal is the rich hearty flavors and the fact that it really doesn’t need a side dish to go with it. We served ours with a tradition Aussie damper but you could serve it with crusty bread, cornbread or even savory muffins.
What’s your favorite things to serve with stew?
