  • Meat Lover’s: Add cooked Italian sausage crumbles or crispy bacon bits.
  • White Pizza Style: Omit the marinara sauce and use a base of ricotta, garlic, and herbs.

Three side-by-side images show the steps to make Pepperoni Dip: a glass dish with cream cheese, then with added shredded cheese, and finally topped with grated parmesan and seasonings.
  1. Make the Base: Preheat the oven. Spread the cream cheese in the bottom of a 9×9 inch baking dish or 9-inch pie plate.
  2. Assemble Layers: Sprinkle half of the mozzarella and parmesan over the cream cheese, then half of the garlic powder and oregano. Pour the marinara evenly over the top.
  3. Top and Bake the Dip: Sprinkle the rest of the cheese and seasonings over the sauce. Place the pepperonis on top then bake until the cheese is melted.

Suggestions to Make this Pepperoni Dip Ahead of Time

Get a head start to make this simple dip even easier.

  • The Assembly: You can mix the cream cheese base and layer the sauce and cheese up to 24 hours in advance. Cover with plastic wrap and keep in the fridge.
  • The Toppings: Chop your pepperoni and grate your cheese ahead of time so you can just “dump and bake” when guests arrive.

Alternate Cooking Methods – Make this Easy Dip in Slow Cooker

If your oven is pre-occupied, there are a couple more ways to make this classic recipe.

  • Slow Cooker: Combine all ingredients (except the “top” layer of cheese) and cook on Low for 1.5 to 2 hours. Add the final cheese layer at the end until melted.
  • Air Fryer: Use a small oven-safe dish. Bake at 350°F for 8–10 minutes. This creates a very bubbly, crispy top layer.
  • Microwave: If you’re in a rush, heat in 45-second intervals, stirring occasionally, until hot (note: you won’t get a browned crust this way).

How to Store, Reheat and Use Leftovers

  • Store: Cover this perfect appetizer and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat: Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 10 minutes to maintain the texture. Microwave reheating can make the pepperoni a bit rubbery.
  • Use Leftovers: Spread the leftover cream cheese and sour cream dip onto bagel halves or toast.
    • Stuffed Shells: Use the dip as a cheesy goodness filling for jumbo pasta shells and bake with extra marinara.
    • Omelet Filling: Stir a spoonful into a morning omelet for a “Pizza Omelet.”

Common Questions About This Game Day Recipe

Can I use Turkey Pepperoni?

Yes, my house loves turkey pepperoni. You can also use low fat or even venison pepperoni.

Why is My Sauce Too Watery?

If your sauce is too watery, you can try to help thicken it up with some extra cheese.

What Can I Use For Dippers?

You can use vegetables, crackers or toasted bread like: toasted baguette slices, garlic bread chips, breadsticks or soft pretzel bites.

Expert Tips for Making Dip with Pepperoni Slices Recipe

  • Room Temp Cream Cheese: This is the most important tip for this party appetizer. If your cream cheese is cold, the dip will be lumpy and hard to scoop. Use full-fat cream cheese for best texture.
  • Layering is Key: Don’t just make it all a room temperature cream cheese mixture. Layer it like a pizza: Cream cheese base, Marinara, shredded mozzarella and pepperoni. This keeps the flavors distinct.
  • The Dippers: Don’t limit yourself to crackers. Use toasted baguette slices, breadsticks, soft pretzel bites, pita chips or even sturdy bell pepper strips for a lower-carb option.
  • Season the Base: Mix a teaspoon of Italian Seasoning and half a teaspoon of garlic powder into the cream cheese layer to elevate the flavor.
  • Serve With: Serve with San Marzano Pizza Sauce or Baked Tortilla Chips.
