Why this Mango Pineapple Smoothie Recipe is a Keeper

With just a 5-minute prep, you can have a vitamin-packed, healthy mango pineapple smoothie that’s family and kid-friendly. It is really a special treat that my family loves.

  • Irresistible Tropical Flavor: The combination of sweet, creamy mango and tart, tangy pineapple creates a symphony of tropical flavors that is both refreshing and deeply satisfying. It’s like a mini-vacation in a glass!
  • Nutrient Powerhouse: Both mango and pineapple are packed with vitamins (especially Vitamin C), minerals, and antioxidants. Mango offers Vitamin A, while pineapple provides bromelain, an enzyme known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Add flaxseed for skin health.
  • Hydrating and Refreshing: Especially on a warm day, this smoothie is incredibly hydrating and cools you down. The high water content of the fruits contributes to this.
  • Digestive Aid: The fiber in both fruits supports healthy digestion, and the bromelain in pineapple can further aid in breaking down proteins.
  • Quick & Easy: With minimal ingredients and a blender, you can whip up this smoothie in minutes. It’s perfect for busy mornings or a quick afternoon pick-me-up.
  • Kid-Friendly: Its naturally sweet taste and vibrant color make it a hit with children, a made in heaven way to sneak in some extra fruit.

Do I Have to Use Frozen Fruit?

A glass of the drink with the fruit in the background.

You don’t need frozen fruit to make a smoothie but it definitely helps. It gives smoothies that thick, frosty consistency without needing ice. Also, frozen fruit is picked at peak ripeness, so it’s often just as flavorful as fresh.

Tropical Smoothies Pro Tip

Feel free to mix in frozen mango and pineapple, as the best consistency for a fruit smoothie usually comes from using two-thirds frozen fruit.

All the fruit and ingredients in glass bowls.
  • Evaporated Milk: The addition of evaporated milk will make this smoothie creamier.
  • Agave Syrup: Agave syrup is a great sweetener for this tropical treat.
  • Fruit: Fresh mango and fresh pineapple are best for taste. However, frozen fruits work well too.

Variations, Add-Ins and Substitutions for Pineapple Mango Smoothie

This recipe is extremely easy to customize. I like to take it to the next level by using different ingredients or trying different flavors.

  • Dairy Free: Use coconut water, coconut milk or almond milk to replace the evaporated milk.
  • Juice: Orange juice, mango juice or pineapple juice add more fruit flavor and can be a great way to thin down the smoothie.
  • Greek Yogurt: Greek vanilla yogurt will add protein and probiotics. It will also make a tangier smoothie with a creamy texture.
  • Green Smoothie: A handful of spinach or kale for a yummy mango spinach smoothie with a vibrant green color.
  • Protein Smoothie: A scoop of vanilla protein powder (or unflavored) or a boost of protein.
  • Healthy Fats: Add a tablespoon of chia seeds, flax seeds, hemp hearts, or a quarter of an avocado for creaminess and satiety.
  • Spices: A pinch of ginger (fresh or ground) for a zesty kick, or turmeric for anti-inflammatory benefits.
  • Sweetener: Add a drizzle of honey, maple syrup, or a few dates if your fruit doesn’t have enough natural sweetness for your liking. You could include a small amount of added sugar.
  • Coconut: Add shredded coconut or coconut cream or coconut yogurt for extra richness and tropical flavor.
  • Adult Twist: Blend in a splash of rum or coconut liqueur for a 21+ version.

Special Equipment Needed to Make a Tropical Smoothie

There’s a step in pineapple mango smoothie recipes that can go much faster with the right piece of kitchen equipment.

  • High-Speed Blender: A high-speed blender is recommended. A regular blender also works, but it will take just a little longer.

Prep Ahead Suggestions for a Pineapple Mango Smoothie

Preparing ingredients ahead of time to help save time and kitchen space when it comes to making a quick breakfast or snack.

  • Frozen Fruit Packs: Portion out your desired amount of frozen mango chunks and frozen pineapple chunks into freezer-safe bags or containers. When ready to blend, simply dump the contents into your blender with your liquid of choice.
  • Pre-Chopped Fresh Fruit: If using fresh fruit, chop the mango and pineapple ahead of time and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. You’ll still need ice when blending.
  • Smoothie Cubes: Blend the mango and pineapple with a little liquid (water, coconut water, or juice) until a thick purée. Pour the purée into ice cube trays and freeze. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a freezer bag. When ready to use, blend a few cubes with your liquid of choice. This is great for a super thick, cold smoothie.

Store, Freeze and Use Leftover Mango Pineapple Smoothie

  • Storing: Best consumed fresh, but will hold in fridge for up to 2 hours.
  • Freezing: If you know you want to be able to freeze your smoothie, omit the evaporated milk and use a little juice. Blend all the ingredients and store in freezer safe bags, popsicle molds or ice cube trays.
  • Using Leftovers: Turn extra smoothie into smoothie bowls. Blend up extra smoothie with a frozen banana to make it thick and top with granola and fresh or frozen fruit.

Common Questions About This Recipe

My Smoothie is Too Thick/Thin. How Do I Fix it?

Is the smoothie is too thin, add more ice. You could also use frozen fruits instead of ice. If it ended up too thick, add more liquid, like juice or water, a splash at a time.

What Kind of Mango is Best?

I like to use fresh pineapple and frozen mango. However, you could also use fresh.

Can I Use Canned Pineapple?

Absolutely! I always say fresh is best, but canned pineapple works too.

Expert Tips for Making Mango Banana Smoothie

  • Always Use Ripe Fruit: The sweetness and flavor of mango smoothies largely depend on the ripeness of your mango and pineapple.
  • Blend in Stages: If your blender struggles, start with the liquid and softer fruit, then gradually add the frozen fruit.
  • Start with Less Liquid: It’s easier to add more liquid to a thick smoothie than to thicken a thin one. Begin with the minimum recommended liquid and add more as needed.
  • High-Powered Blender Advantage: A powerful blender will yield the smoothest, creamiest texture, especially with frozen fruit.
  • Taste and Adjust: Always taste your smoothie before serving and adjust sweetness or add-ins as desired.
  • For a Frosty Treat: If you want an even thicker, almost sorbet-like consistency, reduce the liquid and eat it with a spoon!
  • Clean Your Blender Immediately: Rinse your blender pitcher right after pouring your smoothie. This prevents fruit residue from drying and becoming difficult to clean.
  • Other Fruits: Use either fresh or frozen strawberries peach, raspberry, fresh banana or kiwi with the mango and pineapple.
  • Serve this Recipe: Serve with Blueberry Pineapple Smoothie, Green Goddess Smoothie or Mixed Berry Smoothie.

  • Start slow, then blend high: Pulse first to break down chunks, then blend on high for a creamy texture.
  • Adjust sweetness: Taste after blending and add a touch of honey or agave if your fruit isn’t sweet enough.
  • Prep smoothie packs: Pre-portion fruit into freezer bags for quick grab-and-blend mornings.
