How to Make Homemade Strawberry Cake – Step by Step

Preparing strawberries for cake
  • Prepare: First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. And with a baking spray, spray a 10 inch cake pan and then cut the crowns off strawberries and slice.
  • Mix: Second, then in a mixing bowl add sugar, eggs, and butter and mix with a mixer until light and fluffy and next add vanilla and buttermilk and mix.
  • Dry: Then add self rising flour and mix just until incorporated and set aside.
  • Strawberries: Next, in another mixing bowl add strawberries with butter and sugar and toss and then add strawberry mixture to prepared cake pan and spread out.

  • Batter: Finally, pour cake batter on top and spread out and then bake at 350 degrees for 50-55 minutes. Lastly, let cool for 15 minutes before flipping onto a cake plate.

A cake is done when it starting to pull away from the edges of the pan. You can also insert a toothpick in the middle of the cake and if it comes out clean it’s done.

If you do not have buttermilk, it is easy to make. Therefore, there is no need to substitute. Here is how.

Despite frozen strawberries being great in many dishes, this cake is not one of them, therefore I recommend using fresh!

  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs, large
  • 3 Tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 ½ cups self rising flour
  • Strawberries
  • 4 cups sliced strawberries
  • 4 Tablespoons butter, melted
  • cup sugar

Instructions
