This cake is reminiscent of a strawberry short cake you might serve with premade pound cake. However, this recipe is 100% better because it is fresh from scratch cake and cooked strawberries. It adds a deep flavor to this cake that can not be beat.

How to Make Homemade Strawberry Cake – Step by Step

Preparing strawberries for cake
  • Prepare: First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. And with a baking spray, spray a 10 inch cake pan and then cut the crowns off strawberries and slice.
  • Mix: Second, then in a mixing bowl add sugar, eggs, and butter and mix with a mixer until light and fluffy and next add vanilla and buttermilk and mix.
  • Dry: Then add self rising flour and mix just until incorporated and set aside.
  • Strawberries: Next, in another mixing bowl add strawberries with butter and sugar and toss and then add strawberry mixture to prepared cake pan and spread out.

  • Batter: Finally, pour cake batter on top and spread out and then bake at 350 degrees for 50-55 minutes. Lastly, let cool for 15 minutes before flipping onto a cake plate.

  • 3 Tablespoons butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 ½ cups self rising flour

  • 4 cups sliced strawberries
  • 4 Tablespoons butter melted
