Why this Crockpot Turkey Breast Recipe is a Keeper
This dish checks all the boxes; it’s simple, satisfying and easy to customize.
- Easy & Hands-Off: The slow cooker does the majority of the work, allowing for minimal active cooking time. Prep time is typically only about 10 minutes.
- Moist Turkey: The slow-cooking process in a moist environment is excellent for keeping lean turkey breast from drying out.
- Small Portions: It’s perfect for a small family or when you don’t want to cook a whole turkey.
- One-Pot Meal (Simplified): While the gravy is made separately, the turkey and stuffing cook together, infusing the stuffing with savory turkey juices.
- Comforting: It has a comforting, homey feel that makes you want to return to it.
Should I Use Bone in Turkey Breast or Boneless?
Either works! Make sure your turkey breast is 6-7 pounds, but fits in your slow cooker.

Variations and Substitutions for Crock Pot Turkey and Gravy
This recipe is so easy to change up. I like to experiment with ingredients to make different varieties.
- Stuffing Mix: Use a different flavor of boxed stuffing mix (cornbread, herb, savory, etc.) or use a homemade stuffing mix that is already prepared.
- Vegetables: Add carrots, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, or other root vegetables on the bottom layer with the broth and seasonings for a more complete meal.
- Flavor/Seasoning: Add more savory flavor with a can of cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup mixed into the stuffing/broth. Use fresh herbs like sage or thyme tucked under the turkey skin.
- Moisture/Broth: Use turkey stock instead of chicken broth for a richer, more authentic turkey flavor.
- Garnishes: Mix dried cranberries or chopped apples into the stuffing mixture.

Prep Ahead Suggestions for Bone-In Turkey Breast
Since this recipe is already super easy, there are only a couple things you can do ahead of time when you make this for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.
- Stuffing Prep: Dice the onions and celery (or other vegetables) ahead of time and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Turkey Prep: Thaw the turkey breast completely in the refrigerator. Prepare the dry spice rub and store it in a small container.
Alternate Cooking Methods for Crock Pot Turkey Breast
Alternatively, you can make gravy using your instant pot or oven.
- Oven Roasting: Season the turkey breast and roast it in the oven (typically at 325°F or 350°F) until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. Cook the stuffing in a separate baking dish alongside it.
- Instant Pot/Pressure Cooker: Smaller boneless turkey breasts can be cooked in a pressure cooker in a much shorter time. The stuffing would likely need to be cooked separately or made into a casserole afterward.
How to Store, Reheat and Use Leftover Turkey
- Storing: Store leftover turkey and stuffing separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.
- Reheating Turkey: Slice the Crock Pot Turkey Breast and reheat in a skillet with a splash of broth or in the microwave.
- Stuffing: Reheat in the microwave or spread in a baking dish, cover with foil, and warm in a 350∘F oven until hot throughout.
- Using Leftovers: Mix chopped leftover turkey, stuffing, a “cream of” soup, and a little broth to make a casserole. Bake until bubbly.
- Turkey Sandwiches/Wraps: Use the sliced turkey with stuffing and gravy on bread or a tortilla for a leftover turkey sandwich or wrap.
- Turkey Soup: Use leftover turkey to make a hearty soup from the drippings/broth.
Questions About This Crock Pot Turkey Breast Recipe
Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the breast. When it reads 170°F in the breast and 165°F in the stuffing, the turkey breast is done.
Yes! Feel free to cook a frozen turkey breast or thawed turkey breast.
Tips for Making Easy Crockpot Turkey Breast
- Don’t Peak: Avoid lifting the lid during the cooking process. Slow cookers lose a lot of heat when opened, which drastically increases the cook time.
- Use Low Setting: Cover and cook the turkey on the low setting for the most tender, juiciest results. Cooking on high can sometimes dry out the turkey breast before the stuffing is fully cooked.
- Rest the Turkey: Remove the turkey breast from the slow cooker and et the turkey rest on a cutting board for 10 to 15 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a more flavorful and tender slice.
- Crisp the Skin (If Applicable): If you use a skin-on turkey breast, the skin will be soft from using the slow cooker. You can broil the turkey for 3-5 minutes after it rests to crisp the skin. Watch it very closely to prevent burning.
- Make the Gravy from Drippings: The liquid left in the slow cooker after the turkey is cooked is full of flavor. Strain the liquid and use it as a base to make turkey gravy with a little butter and flour (a roux).
- Serve With Crock Pot Turkey Breast: Serve with Ocean Spray Cranberry Sauce, Corn Ribs with Garlic Butter and Turkey Gravy without Drippings.
