Whether you’re looking for a quick dinner on the go or an easy snack, these Steak and Cheese Hand Pies are perfect!  I often make them for my son to snack on between school and after-school practices and activities.

They also make a great portable dinner – for those extremely busy days when you just can’t stop to eat dinner.  These homemade hot pockets stuffed with beef and three cheeses are always a hit.  Just bake, wrap and go!  These are so easy to enjoy on the go.

Sometimes they’re called hand pies, hot pockets or turnovers.  Whatever you call them, they’re delicious!

What are Steak and Cheese Hand Pies

The Steak and Cheese Hand Pies are a lot like homemade hot pockets.  There’s a soft, tender dough that’s filled with shaved beef, three cheeses and a flavorful creamy spread.

These savory hand pies are  baked to golden brown and can be served warm or room temperature.

What is the best type of beef for this hand pie recipe?

The best type of beef to use in this Philly steak and cheese turnover recipe is sliced deli roast beef.  I found that using deli beef, is quick and easy because it’s already seasoned and cooked.  It only needs to be reheated as the hand pies bake.

Plus, because it’s sliced so thinly, it’s easy to eat on the go and stays moist.  The result is flavorful, tender beef.

Beef is one of my favorite proteins because it’s delicious and nutritious.  As a busy family, we need foods that will keep us going.  Beef provides energy, protein, vitamins and minerals that we all need as part of a healthy diet.

Including one 3 oz. cooked serving of beef will deliver on that goal with B-vitamins, iron and zinc.  One serving of ground beef also has approximately half of the recommended daily serving of protein.

Can you make steak and cheese hand pies ahead of time

Yes!  These steak and cheese hand pies are the perfect make ahead recipe.  You can assemble in advance, lay them on a rimmed baking sheet and freeze them.  Once frozen, transfer them to a storage bag for long term storage in the freezer.

When you’re ready to eat them, simply thaw and bake.

Hot Pocket Cook Time

If you’re wondering how long to cook a hot pocket, you don’t have to worry.  These Philly steak and cheese homemade hot pockets cook very quickly.  They only need 14 minutes in the oven.

If you’re reheating the hot pockets, you can easily just pop them in the microwave uncovered for 30-45 seconds.
