The Secret to Crispy Chickpeas

Roasted chickpeas, also known as roasted garbanzo  beans, are an easy and healthy snack.  Why did I decide to use this bean for my recipe? Because this legume is one nutrient packed marvel.  The chickpea has a protein and fiber boost and these little wonders are full of iron and magnesium.

With regular consumption they can help lower your LDL cholesterol and help stabilize blood sugar levels too. That’s why this crispy chickpea recipe is one of my favorites.

There are few secrets to getting crispy chickpeas:

  1. Chickpeas should be patted dry before air frying.
  2. Make sure the chickpeas in a single layer in the Air Fryer basket.
  3. Don’t season them too early.  Salt will draw out the moisture and give a mushy texture.

The Newest Tool for Air Fryer Recipes

I recently discovered the Mealthy CrispLid.  This unique lid transforms most 6 and 8 quart electric pressure cookers into air fryers.  I love that I don’t have to have another appliance to store and clean.  Instead, I just place the Mealthy CrispLid on top of my Instant Pot and, viola! Instant air fryer!   Let’s face it, air fryers can take up a lot of cabinet or counter space.  The Mealthy CrispLid doesn’t require much room at all to store.

To use the Mealthy CrispLid, simply remove the lid from your pressure cooker and replace it with the Mealthy CrispLid.  Then follow the directions provided in the recipe you are cooking.  That’s it.  It’s super easy.

While I love the crunch of these chickpeas, I didn’t care for the seasoning. I felt like it was missing something and I couldn’t taste anything but the chili powder. I feel like the fine seasoning stuck and the salt did not…because it did not taste salty enough. And to add more salt after its finished cooking, is pointless. It falls off.

I don’t believe this recipe would work with dried garbanzos unless you softened them and then dried them.

We eat chickpeas all the time. I usually have to dry them in the oven. I had no idea about the Mealthy Crisp. This is awesome and I’m ordering one today. I love that it can be added to my pressure cooker.
