CAUTION! This post is not for the faint-of-heart (or those that are calorie counting). The fine folks at Good Cook asked me to participate in their Stuffed Burger Challenge. Immediately, my brain went into overdrive coming up with combinations of meats, cheeses, toppings and sauces. I settled on this Black & Bleu Stuffed Steakhouse Burger.
I have been craving steak recently. This combination of stuffings and toppings is what happens when I incorporate all of my favorite steakhouse flavors into one super STUFFED burger! This is a (wo)man’s burger! A big, thick, juicy burger stuffed with Gorgonzola cheese and bacon(!) and topped with a special steakhouse sauce and balsamic glazed onions. (I need to stop drooling on my keyboard.)
This burger packed a one-two punch of flavor! The first thing that hits you is the sweet balsamic glazed onions. Seriously, I could eat these things all by themselves. Then, there’s the tangy bite of the Gorgonzola cheese and the salty crunch from the bacon, which balances out the sweetness from the onions. And the whole thing has a thick slathering of special steakhouse sauce. I’m still drooling here.
Good Cook provided me with this awesome Burger Stuffing Kit to help me create my burger. It was complete with a cast iron grill pan and burger stuffing press.
There is really nothing like cooking with cast iron. The flavor that you get from these pans is amazing. And, this pan gave me beautiful grill marks. I’ve been a big fan of cast iron for a while now. I make my Savory Steak Sandwiches and Buttery Rosemary Rolls in cast iron pans. And, a cast iron pan is, hands down, the best (and only) way to make bacon! If you’ve never tried it, you MUST! The bacon just melts in your mouth.
I especially loved the burger stuffing press. It was so easy to use. Even my little guy was able to help! I loved how it was marked to show you various burger sizes (1/4, 1/3 and 1/2 pound) and how easy it was clean.

Burgers:
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 Tbsp steak sauce (I used A-1)
3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp steak seasoning (I used McCormick Montreal seasoning)
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
3 oz Gorgonzola cheese, crumbled
4 burger rolls, split
Balsamic Glazed Onions:
2 onions, sliced
1/8 cup balsamic vinegar
1/8 cup olive oil
1/2 salt
1/4 tsp pepper
Steakhouse Sauce:
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 Tbsp steak sauce
3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
In a large bowl, combine onions, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper. Spray a large baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray. Spread onions in a single layer on baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, until the onions are tender.
In a small bowl combine all of the Steakhouse Sauce ingredients and mix until combined. Set aside.
Meanwhile, in a large bowl combine the ground beef, steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce, steak seasoning, salt and pepper. Mix by hand until combined. Divide burger mixture into four equal portions. Divide each portion in half to form the top and bottom of the stuffed burger.
Place one half of the burger mixture into the Good Cook Burger Press and press down to form a well in the meat. Fill the well with 1/4 of the cooked bacon and 1/4 of the Gorgonzola cheese. Place remaining half of burger mixture on top and press with burger press to make the stuffed burger.
Place a thin, even coating of vegetable oil on the grill pan. Heat pan over medium-high heat. Add burgers to grill pan and grill for 5-6 minutes per side, or until burger reaches desired doneness.
Slather Steakhouse Sauce on bottom half of bun. Place burger on top of bun and add Balsamic Glazed Onions. Slather more Steakhouse Sauce on top half of bun.
