Ingredient Notes

  • Cake Mix: Any brand of yellow cake mix will work just fine. If you already have white cake white in your pantry that will work too!
  • Candy: Butterfingers candy bars. Chopped.

  • Sea Salt – To bring out the sweetness of the cookies sprinkle on a bit of sea salt over the baked cookies while they are still warm.
  • Chocolate Chips – For extra sweetness add chocolate chips to the cookie dough in addition to the butterfinger bits on the inside.
  • Chocolate Cake Mix – For all my chocolate lover out there, use chocolate cake mix to get the most decadent double chocolate and butterfinger cookies.
  • Chocolate Drizzle – To make these chocolate look extra pretty, melt chocolate chips along with a bit of chocolate oil in the microwave for 30 second intervals until completely melted. Then use a fork or spoon to create a chocolate drizzle over the cookies.

How to Make Box Cake Mix Cookies

These are the basic steps for making Butterfinger Cookies. Please refer to the recipe card below for more detailed instructions and nutrition information.

STEP 1: PREPPING

Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees before you start prepping the cookies, so it’s to temperature when you are ready to pop the cookies in the oven. Then use parchment paper or a silicone mat to line a baking sheet.

STEP 2: MAKE THE DOUGH

Melt the butter in a glass measuring cup in the microwave or on the stove top using the double boiler method. In a large mixing bowl, add the cake mix, melted butter, and eggs. Stir or use a hand mixer until fully combined, the consistency with be a softer dough.

STEP 3: SCOOP ONTO PAN

Then use a rubber spatula or wooden to gently fold in the butterscotch bits. Use a cookie scoop get even scoops or roll cookie dough balls, drop each dough on a baking sheet with 2 inches of space between get scoop.

STEP 4: BAKE COOKIES

Transfer to the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven, and allow the cookies to stay on the hot cookie sheet on the top of a wire cooling rack for 3 minutes in order to let the cookies set. Use a spatula and gently remove each cookie from the pan and transfer to the cooling rack.
