How to Store, Reheat and Use Leftovers
- Storing: I wrap each slider individually in aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Alternatively, place them in an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
- Reheating: For me the best way to reheat them is to bake them. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Wrap the sliders in aluminum foil to prevent them from drying out. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the filling is heated through and the bread is warm. For a crispier bun, unwrap them for the last few minutes of reheating.
- Using Leftovers: We have used the leftovers can be made into soup, salads or even stuffed in peppers.
Common Questions About This Recipe
Preheat air fryer to 350F. Place sliders in air fryer basket. Heat for 5-8 minutes, or until heated through.
Drain Excess Moisture: If your deli meats or marinated vegetables have excess liquid, drain them thoroughly before adding them to the sliders.
Layer Properly: Place the cheese directly against the bread. The cheese acts as a moisture barrier between the bread and the wetter fillings.
Avoid Overly Wet Sauces: If using sauces or dressings, use them sparingly. Too much sauce will make the bread soggy.
Don’t Overfill: Overfilling the sliders can lead to excess moisture and uneven cooking.
The small, typically round shape of sliders makes them easy to eat in just a few bites. They “slide” down easily, especially when they’re moist and soft.
I have made them with so many different cold cuts and cheeses. Here are some of my favorite Italian meats.
Prosciutto: Thinly sliced, dry-cured ham with a delicate, salty flavor.
Capicola (or Coppa): Dry-cured pork neck or shoulder, often seasoned with spices and sometimes hot pepper.
Mortadella: A large, finely ground pork sausage with small cubes of fat, known for its smooth texture and mild flavor.
Expert Tips for Making Hot Italian Sliders Recipe
While we love these sandwiches as they are, it is easy to switch up the salami, add some provolone cheese or slice some red onion, to make this recipe your own.
- Seasoning is Key: Don’t skimp on the seasonings! Use Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and other spices to create a flavorful filling.
- Layering Matters: Layer the ingredients strategically. Start with a layer of sauce, then cheese, then meat, and more cheese on top.
- Don’t Overfill: Resist the urge to overfill the sliders. Too much filling will make them difficult to eat and can cause the rolls to tear.
- Brush the Tops of the Rolls: The herb-butter topping is crucial for adding flavor and preventing the rolls from drying out. Don’t skip it!
- Rest Before Slicing: Let the assembled sliders rest for a few minutes before when they come out of the oven slicing and serving. This allows the cheese to set and the flavors to meld for this delicious recipe.
- Heat: Use hot pepperoni, mild banana peppers, pepperoncini, red onion to make this recipe.
