Pizza Burger on a white plate

This post is sponsored by The Beef Checkoff.  As always, all opinions are my own.

Yes, I take the tangy goodness of pizza sauce and the spicy pepperoni, gooey cheese and a big fat juicy burger and mix them together for the ultimate in meal splendor. That is my Pizza Burger.

Why Pizza Burgers are such a hit

Whenever you ask your family what they want for dinner the two most popular and inevitable choices are pizza and burger and you can almost guarantee that they are split right down the middle as to who wants what. The most delicious solution is to combine the two and create something that everyone agrees is the perfect meal. Pizza Burgers!

Recommendations for Making the Perfect Pizza Burger

The key to a great Pizza Burger is to start with understanding how to make the perfect burger. Here are a few tips and tricks:

  • Start with a good quality ground beef, a nice 80/20 mix.
  • Treat the beef tenderly. Use a light hand.
  • Handle the meat as little as possible so that it isn’t tough.
  • Use thumb to indent the center of the hamburger so that it doesn’t puff up and cooks evenly.
  • Only turn the burger once.
  • And  PLEASE don’t press the burger down hard with the spatula.

Choosing the right ground beef for this recipe

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between the various ground beef varieties?  It can be confusing…80/20, 90/10, grass fed, organic, etc.  What does it all mean?

For this recipe, I like to use an 80/20 ground beef blend.  This is a mixture of 80% lean beef mixed with 20% fat.  Typically, this blend is made of ground chuck.  The fat gives the burger its juiciness and adds flavor.  Always remember, fat=flavor.

A 90/10 blend is more lean, with 90% lean beef and only 10% fat.  This blend is usually made from sirloin which is leaner.

According to the USDA, “grass-fed” beef is from cows that were fed only on grass and forage.  However, its doesn’t mean the animals were only fed on a pasture.

Make a Pizza Burger Bar

These Pizza Burgers can be as individual as your favorite pizza. You can build your own pizza burger station so that your family can build their  own masterpiece. Try, sausage, mushrooms, onions, peppers or olives and even dare I say….pineapple.

It’s a great activity for parties and back yard barbeques or tailgating.

  • No Grill No Problem: You can make these pizza burgers on the stove top and then finish under the broiler
