What do I serve with this Italian Pot Roast?

The imagination is your only limit with this recipe. So whatever your family loves.  This Italian Beef goes perfectly over my Creamy Polenta or mashed potatoes.

I like serving this pot roast meat with Sweet and Spicy Skillet Green Beans. You can always go the traditional route and cook potatoes and carrots with the meat in the crock pot.

What type of Slow Cooker Should I use to make Pot Roast?

When it comes to slow cookers, there are many options available – from the basic to the ultra fancy. My favorite is the this one. I have had a number of slow cookers over the years and this is by far my favorite. It’s easy to use and program. It’s just the right size and it has handy clips that hold the lid on securely while you’re traveling.

The Instant Pot is another great double duty devise to have in your kitchen because it can act as a slow cooker as well. You can easily make this recipe in an Instant Pot.  All you need to do is adjust the cook time.

What type of Beef do I use for Pot Roast?

For my crock pot beef roast I am using a chuck roast.  Honestly, the tougher the better. Beef with lots of connective tissue and little fat. Why? Because the high amount of collagen in tough cuts eventually breaks down into gelatin,  which tenderizes the meat. So the best pot roast meat can  be chuck, brisket or rump roasts. They will make a wonderful, flavorful pot roast just make sure you cook it on a low temperature for a longer period of time. This is why the slow cooker works so well.

  • Make a larger amount: This recipe freezes great, so make extra.
  • Brown your Meat: While not necessary, browning the meat caramelizes the proteins and will enhance the flavor.

Meat and potatoes man RAVED about this the first time I made it. I wanted to make it again but red peppers were $4.49 each at the store, so nope! I did get a good deal on mushrooms and London broil, so mushrooms and London broil it is! The way I see it, you can’t go wrong with this recipe as your base. Delicious!!
