Why this Blueberry Mini Brie Bites Recipe is a Keeper
I love this easy trader joe’s appetizer copycat because it’s super quick and delicious. The creamy brie cheese pairs wonderfully with the juicy berries.
- Flavor Fusion: The combination of creamy, rich brie with the sweet and slightly tart burst of blueberries creates a delightful and balanced flavor profile. This sweet-savory pairing is often a crowd-pleaser.
- Texture Contrast: The flaky pastry (if used) provides a wonderful contrast to the smooth, melty brie and the soft, juicy blueberries. This textural element elevates the eating experience.
- Visual Appeal: The vibrant blue of the blueberries against the golden-brown pastry and creamy white brie is visually appealing, making them a lovely addition to any appetizer spread.
- Ease of Serving: Being “mini” makes them perfect for individual servings, eliminating the need for cutting and making them easy for guests to handle.
- Versatility: They can be adapted for various occasions, from casual gatherings to more formal events.

- Pastry Dough: These delicious mini bites can be made with puff pastry or crescent dough. I like to use Pillsbury because it’s what easiest to find at my local grocery store. You could also use phyllo dough.
- Brie: Grab a wheel or 2 wedges of brie so that you have 8 ounces.
- Blueberries: I like the flavor of fresh berries the best but this is also a great recipe to use up frozen berries.
- Other Berries: Try using raspberries, blackberries, or a mix of berries for different flavor nuances and colors.
- Jam or Preserves: Instead of fresh berries, try blueberry jam or preserves. Try different fruit like fig jam, raspberry, cranberry orange or apricot for a sweeter and smoother filling.
- Sweeteners: Adjust the sweetness by using honey, maple syrup, or a sugar substitute. A touch of balsamic glaze can also add complexity.
- Herbs and Spices: Experiment with adding a garnish fresh thyme, a sprig of rosemary, or a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the blueberry mixture for added depth of flavor.
- Nuts: Incorporate chopped nuts like pecans, walnuts, or almonds for extra crunch and flavor. Toasting the nuts beforehand enhances their taste.
- Savory Twist: For a savory variation, consider adding a tiny piece of crispy prosciutto, pepper jelly or caramelized onions on top of the piece of brie or goat cheese.
Special Equipment Needed for the Mini Muffin
Sometimes a specific piece of equipment is needed to make a recipe perfectly. In this case, all that’s needed is a mini muffin tin.
- Mini Muffin Pan: The cups in a mini muffin or cupcake pan is the perfect size to bake the brie bites in.

Prep Ahead Suggestions for the Easy Appetizer
Prepping triple creme brie bites ahead of time can really help to save time and kitchen space if hosting a party.
- Prepare the Filling: The blueberry component can often be prepared in advance. You could make a quick blueberry compote or simply toss fresh blueberries with a touch of sugar or lemon zest a few hours ahead. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Assemble (Partially): Depending on the pastry you’re using, you might be able to partially assemble the bites a few hours in advance. For example, if using phyllo, you could layer and cut the pastry. However, it’s best to add the brie and blueberry filling just before baking to prevent the pastry from getting soggy. If using puff pastry, you might be able to cut out the shapes.
- Brie Preparation: You can cut the brie into the desired small pieces ahead of time. One of my secrets is to place the brie in the freezer to firm up so that it’s easier to slice through.
