Alternate Cooking Methods
Asian chicken lettuce wraps are best made on the stove, but there are a couple other ways to make it.
- Slow Cooker: You can cook the ground chicken and sauce on low for 3–4 hours, though you miss out on the “sear” flavor. Stir in the crunchy water chestnuts at the very end.
- Meal Prep Bowls: Instead of wraps, serve the chicken mixture over a bed of cauliflower rice or shredded cabbage for an easy office lunch.
How to Store, Reheat and Use Leftovers
- Store: Store the chicken mixture and the lettuce in separate containers. The chicken stays fresh for 3–4 days.
- Reheat: The chicken is best reheated in a skillet over medium heat with a splash of chicken broth or water to loosen the sauce. Microwaving the ground chicken lettuce wraps filling also works (60–90 seconds).
- Leftover Ideas: Cold chicken lettuce cups filling are great tossed with shredded kale and a sesame ginger dressing.
- Egg Roll Bowls: Stir in some coleslaw mix while reheating for a “deconstructed egg roll” feel.
Common Recipe FAQS About Chicken Lettuce Cups
To fix soggy lettuce wrap filling, you could add more chicken and veggies.
Yes. Place in the freezer in an airtight bag or in an airtight container. It will last for up to three months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight.
If you want the easiest, prettiest wraps use Butter lettuce. For the best crunch use iceberg leaves and a good middle of the road lettuce is Romaine lettuce.
Tips for Making this Asian Lettuce Wraps Recipe
- Don’t Overcrowd the Pan: Add ground chicken in batches if necessary. You want it to brown and get “crispy bits,” not steam in the pan.
- The “Umami” Boost: Add a teaspoon of toasted sesame oil at the very end of cooking these PF Chang’s lettuce wraps. Heating sesame oil too long can make dipping sauce taste bitter.
- Double the Crunch: Top with chopped peanuts, cashews, or crispy fried rice noodles for extra texture.
- Try This Recipe With: Serve Asian lettuce cups with Honey Sesame Chicken Vegetable Sheet Pan, Asian Coleslaw or Asian Pork Meatballs.
