The Air Fryer homemade Taquitos are the perfect way to make a delicious Mexican-inspired meal in minutes. This is one of my favorite recipes because I am a fan of spicy foods. They do not get greasy (less oil) and the filling stays in place much better. They are a true family favorite.

What You Need to Make Taquitos

Ingredients

  • Shredded cooked chicken breast
  • Sour cream
  • Fresh cantina style salsa
  • Taco seasoning (chili powder, garlic powder, etc.)
  • Corn/ flour tortilla
  • Olive oil spray/ avocado oil

How to Make Taquitos – Step by Step

Filling before and after mixing for the chicken taquitos.
  • Mix: First, in a mixing bowl, combine the shredded chicken, sour cream, salsa, taco seasoning and place tortillas on flat surface.
  • Roll: Second, fill the center of each tortilla with 3-4 tablespoons of the mixture and then roll. Repeat until all are rolled.
  • Fry: Next, spray the air fryer basket and taquitos with oil and place in to cook at 380 for 10 minutes until golden brown
  • Serve: Finally, remove and top with favorite pepper, a little salt, cheddar cheese, shredded cheese, cream cheese, black beans, fresh pico or sauce.

CHICKEN TO USE?

Use leftover chicken, a store bought rotisserie chicken or alternatively, try the pre-shredded for air frying that are available at big box stores.

CAN I SUBSTITUTE BEEF IN PLACE OF CHICKEN?

Definitely, they are delicious with ground beef or shredded beef and great for the whole family.

RECIPE BE DOUBLED OR HALVED?

Of course, whether cooking for one or a tribe, you can adjust this recipe as you need too.

FROZEN TAQUITOS?

You can pre-make these and then freeze, simply thaw in the fridge and then use the air fryer as instructed.

MADE AHEAD OF TIME?

The filling can be made ahead of time but recommend rolling them right before frying for that crispy texture that you want from the taquito.

  • Add Cheese: Mexican blend, taco or a nice cheddar.
  • Short cut tip: Rotisserie chickens make this a super easy dish.
  • Variation tip: While the traditional taquito uses corn tortillas feel free to use flour or whole wheat. Add a delicious twist to this recipe card based on your likes and dislikes/
  • Do not overfill: You want these to be crispy so do not stuff them.
  • Toppings: Feel free top with queso, sour cream, guacamole and a little fresh cilantro or parsley.
  • Vegetarian: Beans can be used in place of meat.

These Chicken Air Fryer Taquitos are a delicious Mexican-inspired appetizer that can be made in 25 minutes. Made up of a spicy chicken filling wrapped in a crispy corn tortilla, these taquitos are the perfect go-to snack for any occasion.

  • 1 pound Shredded Cooked Chicken
